The basic technology for OTEC was proven and demonstrated more than 30 years ago with the MINI OTEC demonstration and subsequent tests. Since that time, significant improvements to OTEC systems include:
The adaptation of Dr. Alfred A. Yee’s Concrete Island Drilling System (CIDS) structural design and high strength concrete originally used in the oil industry to support floating OTEC systems.
Dr. Hans Krock’s development of the use of a flexible cold water pipe with the pump located on the bottom.
